INCREDIBLE! In Zimbabwe trade by barter is back in grand style - Parents can now pay for school fees with goats

“Our schools have to be flexible and ensure those who do not have money to pay fees can work. For example, if there is a builder in the community, he/she must be given that opportunity to work as a form of payment of tuition fees,” - Zimbabwe's Primary and Secondary Education Minister Dr Lazarus Dokora

Background

  • The government gave a nod to the payment of school fees using livestock or labour. This is coming after a bill was proposed in parliament to direct banks to accept livestock as collateral for cash loans to informal businesses.
  • Zimbabwe started experiencing cash shortages since after the government threatened to grab all foreign companies operating in the country under the Indigenisation and Empowerment Law
Our take on the matter
  • In the land of Mugabe, anything can happen.
Conclusion
  • Imagine Obasanjo was a Zimbabwean, he would be able to send all pupils in Ogun state to school on scholarship thanks to Obasanjo farms.
